HMRRC Club News

In the news this month are two engagements.

Lauren Scarupa and Douglas Clark

Lauren Scarupa, a top runner and Pace Setter contributor,
is engaged to Douglas Clark. They will wed on October 22,
and we hope to have a picture of the happy couple in the
November Pace Setter issue.

Lauren wrote this about their meet up and how love blossomed.

“We had our first date walking the bike path at Lion’s Park, where Doug would later propose.  While dating during a global pandemic was tricky at time, we wouldn’t change it for the world!”

Shylah Weber and Jacob Andrews

Both Shylah and Jacob are elite runners.  Shylah at the recent 2022 Boilermaker was the only runner from the Albany area to win an award: she was 5th place in her age category.  She ran with Jacob for the second half and wrote this:

I was struggling from the start and discouraged when I knew I’d fall short of my A goal. I came down the hill after 4 miles of uphill work, and surprisingly Jacob was waiting for me. I was sad for him, but also very grateful to have his company for the second half the race. His encouragement and support helped me to push through and PR despite having a really rough day out there!

Jacob qualified for the 2020 Olympic  Team Trials in Atlanta, GA with a time of 2:18:49.  One of the notes on his Olympic bio is particularly heartwarming for the HMRRC:

A favorite memory is winning 2016 Mohawk Hudson Half Marathon in his debut at the distance, after continuing to push when the pack caught the leader around Mile 10.
