Freihofer’s Run for Women – 43 with a midlife crisis!

by Kristen Hislop

The 43rd Freihofer's Run for Women will happen in 2021. Like many women in their 40s we are pivoting and reacting to our surroundings. To best serve our community we are offering an in-person event in downtown Albany on 9/25/21 AND a virtual event that allows you to run/walk between 9/19 and 9/26. You choose how you want to participate in this event all about empowerment, community and happiness. Could sound corny, but this really is our focus. How does the Freihofer’s Run for Women empower you?

It is a personal question and for each of us we answer differently. Maybe for you it is a chance to get back out into society and experience some sense of normalcy. Maybe it is a chance for you to challenge your body and mind after a rough patch. Maybe it is a chance to inspire others who need to see your strength and spirit. Why you participate is personal and important. That is the energy you feel on September 25. No one has to tell you their why - you just feel the power of a thousand whys.

The energy starts as people gather and builds to the start. As athletes (and everyone who participates is an athlete) cross the line the emotions boil over - tears, cheers, hugs, smiles, jumps, high fives and swelled hearts. It is magical. It is emotional. It is powerful. Most importantly it is empowering. We bring our community together and what results is happiness!

If you have not yet signed up, please do so. Click here to register.

There are so many facets to the event. Did you know there are many teams? The team awards this year are sterling silver jewelry. If already registered, you can still create a team. Your options are: Mother/daughter, sister/sister, Grandmother/mother/daughter, Great grandmother/ grandmother/mother/daughter, Friends and family, Corporate, USA Track and Field and High School. The HS team is not just for girls on a high school run team. Create your own HS team of friends, swimmers, band members - you get the picture - and join us!

Not everyone can run/walk the event, but everyone can get involved. Our volunteers are what keeps this event moving forward. This year we will have a volunteer dinner/meet up at the Armory at Russell Sage College on Wednesday, September 22, 2021. Volunteers will pick up dinner, their shirts and assignments. If you participate, please thank those people in bright pink!

On-line registration is open until midnight on Tuesday, September 22, 2021. You can head to packet pick up on Thursday, September 23 from 4-8 p.m. or Friday, September 24 for 2-7 p.m. at the Armory at Russell Sage College (130 New Scotland Avenue) for last chance registration! We are encouraging everyone to pick up their bib, shirt, mask, cookies and bread at the Armory packet pick up. While we will have day-of packet pick up in front of the Capitol, it will minimize lines and waiting if people come early.

If you need another reason to sign up for the 43rd Freihofer’s Run for Women, well then how about a medal. Yes, there will be a medal waiting for you at the finish line. So, get signed up today. Come volunteer and hand out the medals to these happy athletes. Join us. Empowerment - Community - Happiness 2021!
