As part of its program to promote running in the Great Albany Area, the HMRRC this year offers $3,000 scholarships to four promising athletes going to college. Now is the time to apply. In its 22nd year, the HMRRC program has funded over $200,000 to deserving scholar-athletes. Applications must be received by April 1, 2021. The Bill Shrader Sr. Memorial Scholarships were established in the memory of Bill Shrader, Sr., an outstanding life-long runner and one of the founding members of the Hudson Mohawk Road Runners Club. The purpose of the program is to encourage and support young runners in their efforts to make running a lifelong part of a healthy lifestyle.

In 2021, four $3,000 non-renewable scholarships will be awarded to runners planning to attend a college, university or community college on a full-time basis. Awards will be made to the top scoring male, top scoring female, and the next two highest scoring runners, male or female, as selected by the Committee. The awards will be limited to track or cross-country runners currently attending a Section II high school.

Complete biographies of last year’s outstanding recipients, can be read by clicking here.

The HMRRC Selection Committee will determine the Scholarship award winners. Winners will be announced by May 1, 2021 and featured in the Pace Setter.

In addition to the Shrader Scholarship program, the HMRRC offers other community outreach programs such as grants to localities to build infrastructure for running, the Just Run program to encourage young runners, and charities of choice at the CDPHP Workforce Challenge which has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for worthy charities in our community.
