2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Local Interest

It was a beautiful sunny warm (70+ degrees) day in Los Angeles at the start of the US Olympic Team Marathon Trials. A wonderful day for the viewers, not such a great day for the runners.

Local Interest:

Female Race:

Maegan Krifchin, winner of the 2012 Stockade-athon finished in 7th overall with a 2:33:28 PR. Maegan went to High School in Long Island prior to attending college at Syracuse. Great job Maegan!

Gina (Shaw) Slaby, Navy Lieutenant and South Glens Fall HS graduate finished 31st in 2:43:53. This was Gina’s second Trials competition. Not the time Gina was looking for, but a very respectable effort, nonetheless.

Sasha Alexandra Varanka, who is engaged to Scott Mindel had a tough day. Sasha finished 123rd in 3:00:44

Male Race:

Kieran O’Connor a Scotia native who became a first time Dad on Wednesday finished 24th running a fantastic 2:21:36 PR. Kieran a graduate of Notre Dame­Bishop Gibbons High School had a very, very good week.

Lou Serafini a Niskayuna HS grad, who won the Mohawk Hudson River Half Marathon this past October had a tough day. Lou who went through the half in 1:08:30 (same time as Kieran) but was forced to drop at the 21 mile marker.

Fernanda Cabada, winner of the 2009 Stockade-athon finished 55th in 2:27:53.

Tim Chichester, winner of the 2011 Stockade-athon finished 92nd in 2:36:46.
