Craig Coon of Malta was the top local finisher at the Boston Marathon on Monday, April 18. The 28-year-old former cross country and track standout at Binghamton University, posted a 2:29:51 to finish 32nd overall. See the article for full local results.
Twenty-eight HMRRC members completed the 2016 Boston Marathon. Aaron Knobloch (40) clocked the fastest member time among men with a 2:50:07, while Karen Dolge (45) led female members with a 3:10:06.
Every runner dreads an injury that in an instant can have repercussions for months or years. This unfortunately happened to Tom O’Grady, a noted runner in the greater Albany area who has distinguished himself yearly in the Boston Marathon and who is known as a streaker, a person who runs every day. Tom hopes that knowledge of his experience will help other runners deal positively with similar issues.
Winter briefly reappeared on Sunday, April 3. But the weather failed to dampen the enthusiasm of the 440+ runners who competed in the 5-mile Delmar Dash. Ballston Lake’s Eric Macknight easily outdistanced the men’s field by running 25:22 (a 5:05 pace). Schenectady’s Julia Flower ran 29:35 (a 5:55 pace) to lead the women.

A nearly perfect early Spring day greeted the over 300 runners at the Runnin’ of the Green on Saturday, March 12. Eric Macknight led the men over the 4-mile course in 19:57, while 17-year-old Julia Flower paced the women in 23:04. Albany Running Exchange captured the Open Men's title and Kinetic Running Club the Women’s title in the inaugural event of the USATF Club Championship.
Race Day is Sunday, October 9, 2016. New in 2016: Both races start at 8 a.m. and the course will be open for 6 hours. The Hannaford Half is sold out. Limited bibs are available through select charities.
